Is Chrome really the #1 browser?

Recent headlines proclaim chrome is the #1 browser on the World Wide Web. I have to question how accurate that statement is and how did they get to the #1 spot if true.
You have to wonder how much software bundling has to play in browser stats. It's no secret there are many "free" software packages out there that bundle additional software. How many people actually uncheck this option?
And there is the wonderful world of statistics and how they are generated and compiled. Does Chrome really use certain techniques to boost perceived market share?
